Tom Maxfield, founder of Tom's Companies, the group behind Seaham Hall and Serenity Spa, has been appointed as director of Coolmore Estates Limited, the consortium planning to develop a centre for film and media in Seaham, County Durham.
Mr Maxfield, said: "I am delighted to be involved in a project with the potential to help attract new business and talent to the North East that could play a significant role in the growth of the region's economy."
Residents of Seaham will next week have the first opportunity to see plans, talk to members of the development team and give their views on the proposed development of a Centre for Creative Excellence (CCE) which would include educational facilities, a film studio complex, parklands, hotels and leisure facilities.
Tom Maxfield joins the consortium's existing directors - chartered accountant Alistair Ross; real estate developer and entertainment industry executive, Philip Moross and John Wood, chairman of Tolent.
Mr Ross said: "We are delighted to have Tom on board and believe the development of the CCE would be a positive step not only for Seaham, but the region as a whole. We would like to encourage local residents to come along and view the plans and we welcome their comments and opinions."
Mr Moross said: "The support and advice that we have received from the relevant politicians, public agencies and local authorities across the region so far in this process have been exceptional, and our hope is that the general public will be extremely supportive of our proposal prior to our planning submission to Easington District Council."
There will be an opportunity for members of the public to put their questions directly to representatives from the development team at a public exhibition on Monday 15 October at The Glebe Centre, Durham Place, Church Street, Murton. For information on exhibition opening times call 01670 785000.
