Final countdown for 2009 ‘Property Oscar' entries

With the deadline for entries now less than three weeks away (23 January), the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is announcing a final call for entries for the 2009 North East Renaissance Awards.

The awards aim to celebrate the best property projects in the region over what has been a particularly challenging 12 months for those involved in property and construction.

Council hails carbon cuts savings

A council on Teesside claims to have saved Â£120,000 in just six months by cutting down on its carbon emissions.

Stockton Council pledged to cut emissions by 25% by 2013 but says it has already managed a 3% reduction in the first six months of a campaign.

North East Cuts Down in Credit Crunch

This year's financial crisis has prompted northerners to cut back on spending in many areas, a Newcastle research firm has discovered.

The company, Explain, conducted the research independently to explore how the region is handling the financial strain. It found almost a third of North East motorists are driving more slowly to save on fuel costs and half are searching hard for the best petrol and diesel prices.

South Tyneside businesses poised for growth

A recent survey of more than 100 businesses in South Tyneside found that despite a dip in confidence due to the current economic climate, nearly 4 in 5 respondents are looking to grow in the near future.

The survey was carried out by the South Tyneside Business Forum, which is supported through South Tyneside Means Business in partnership with the North East Chamber of Commerce revealed encouraging results.

Equality North East helps small businesses profit through equality

More than a hundred delegates who attended the recent 'Profiting through Equality' conference heard from Equality North East (ENE) how equality can help improve business performance.

Sponsored by the North East Equality and Diversity Partnership (NEEDP), Equality North East organised an interactive day to bring both public and private sector delegates up to date with equality legislation. There were also roleplays, the opportunity to ask questions and a debate on emerging trends in the region.
