Chemical company boss Paul Booth has gone "back to the floor" as part of a campaign to promote the business benefits of apprenticeships. His path to becoming the UK President of SABIC, one of the world's industrial giants, started off through an apprenticeship on Teesside.

Paul went back to his roots to experience the sort of training on offer for apprentices today and to tell the young learners, and employers, what can be achieved through the programme.

Project aims to halt the 'brain drain'

A Gateshead-based project is aiming to keep the North East's brightest research brains within the region.

Enterprise Europe Network, a project run by the Teesside-based Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), links universities and high-tech manufacturers in the region to sources of European funding to ensure that research and development remains in the North East.

Bedlington Terrier Bramble and Alsatian cross Izzie have sniffed out a fragrant business deal for their owners.

New rules impacting the North East chemical industry were on the agenda at an event in County Durham earlier this week.

The North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) hosted a workshop at Hardwick Hall Hotel on Monday to discuss REACH: the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals regulations.
