North East firms are being urged to look at the Middle East as it focuses on building for the future.

UK Trade & Investment has teamed up with the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), First Gulf Bank, legal firm Eversheds, County DurhamDevelopment Company (CDDC) and airline Emirates to host an event focusing on doing business in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.

Indian technology giant brings jobs to South Tyneside

Telecommunications software and services giant Tech Mahindra has chosen South Tyneside as the base for its expanding European and North American client base, bringing with it up to 500 new jobs. The new contact centre, sited in Jarrow's Viking Business Park, will be a major investment for the company. The company is proposing to create a number of jobs in the short term, growing to over 500 in five years.

One of the users of Tech Mahindra's services will be BT PLC, which has recently signed a Â£184 million contract on a major regeneration programme in the borough.

Chinese learn about North East mine restoration

A delegation of senior Chinese state officials have travelled to Northumberland to learn more about the restoration of former mining sites from a North East property developer.

The Banks Group hosted a dozen delegates from the Fangshan district, close to the Chinese capital Beijing, with a view to sharing ideas and expertise on best practice in public amenity and open space development, and with a particular focus on transforming brownfield sites into community landmarks or leisure facilities.
