			<description><![CDATA[<p>Science really is the big topic this week, with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland dominating the headlines across the world. However, scientists in the North East are attempting to beat the "Big Bang" project at its own game.</p><p>Last year <a href="http://bdaily.info/news/business/laboratorys-name-marks-east-cleveland-heritage/">we reported</a> on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_matter">dark matter</a> research taking place at Boulby, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The team of scientists in a tiny lab at the bottom of the deepest mine in Britain are hoping to be the first to detect dark matter - the so-called 'cosmic glue' theorised to bind together the Universe.</p>]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[Durham scientists set to make a Big Bang]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>While the rest of the world waits anxiously for the results of one of the biggest scientific experiments ever conducted, representatives from the North East have travelled to Geneva to the epicentre of the potential Swiss-generated apocalypse.</p><p>Scientists from Durham University are to examine the very beginnings of our Universe as part of a worldwide team of scientists and engineers attending the switch-on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).  The LHC is a gigantic particle accelerator built about 100m underground at CERN (the European Organisation for Nuclear Research) on the Swiss/French border at Geneva.</p>]]></description>
