David Dunn, Chief Operating Officer of Sunderland Software City, will be outlining his vision for North East England's latest innovation connector, at the upcoming IT in the Community Conference.</p><p>Sunderland Software City is a new multi-million pound project to establish the software industry as a major global force in North East England, attracting inward investment and employing thousands of people. A recent independent study found that Sunderland has the infrastructure and expertise to deliver the project, and it is anticipated that the North East's software industry will grow at twice the rate of the UK's software industry.</p>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>New technology that can tell the exact level of traffic fumes being breathed in at any moment is being trialled in the North East.</p><p>The technology has been designed by experts at Newcastle University and produces real-time metre-by-metre data on traffic pollutants such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and even noise. It goes by the name MESSAGE, which stands for 'Mobile Environmental Sensing System Across a Grid Environment' - the name was obviously chosen before the definition.</p>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>If you're one of the lucky people to have seen a reduction in the amount of email spam in your inbox lately, you might want to thank computer scientists at <a href="http://www.ncl.ac.uk/">Newcastle University</a>.</p><p>Dr Jeff Yan and PhD student Ahmad Salah El Ahmad recently became the first people to crack the security behind the biggest names in global email services, exposing widespread vulnerability. But, unlike the hackers who exploit cracks in the system for their own gain, they used their knowledge for the greater good and took their findings straight to the companies.</p>]]></description>
