Stockton Fringe gets underway

AN EXPECTED crowd of 10,000 people will this weekend descend on a Teesside market town for an electrifying 3 days of music and comedy.

Now in it’s twentieth year, the Stockton Riverside Fringe Festival kicks off today and is set to feature a cast of some of the region’s most talked about local assembles as well as a brew of national chart toppers, including English electro golden crinklies The Human League and American art rockers Mercury Rev.

Calvin Harris will also be stopping by, along with Mercury Music nominees and veterans of the alternative circuit British Sea Power.

Fringe director Paul Burns said: “Landing an artist of Calvin Harris’s calibre is a massive coup for The Fringe and Stockton.  It demonstrates the growing reputation of the area as a great place to enjoy live music.

“With Human League, Lightning Seeds and Mercury Rev already performing, Calvin’s appearance really puts the icing on our cake.”

The Fringe will once again feature its Main Stage, the Loosely Acoustic Stage, and raft of events within Stockton Cultural Quarter.

Meanwhile, The Tees Active Comedy Tent will host some of Britain’s prevailing comic contemporaries including South Shields born Sarah Millican, Ivan Brackenbury and Roger Monkhouse, as well as a stint from the controversial boundary pusher Reginald D Hunter.
